William Harry Wright, affectionately known as "Billy" and to some "Big Man" or "Duke," passed away peacefully on August 1st, 2024, at the age of 68 in Catholic Health Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre, NY. William was born on February 16th, 1956, at 1:32pm in Jamaica Hospital, Queens, New York to the late Anna Manderson-Wright and William Henry Wright. In his late childhood and early adulthood, he resided in Queens. He later lived in Long Island, New York. In his earlier years, William attended high school and was a DJ. He later found employment with the New York State Sanitation Department, where he dedicated many years of service until a work-related injury forced him into disability. Despite this setback, he continued to explore his passion for travelling, often journeying abroad. His love for researching his heritage and genealogy was unmatched, as he delved into reports on his ancestors and their history. William was keenly interested in studying herbs and natural remedies, sharing his vast knowledge with those in need. William's impact extended beyond his career and interests. He selflessly helped anyone who crossed his path, offering assistance in various forms, such as providing food, transportation, or herbal remedies to alleviate ailments. He was admired for his wisdom in herbal medicine, offering guidance on healing practices to those seeking help. On June 29th, 1976, William was blessed with a son, William Cory Turner, whom he cherished dearly. He leaves behind to mourn and cherish his memories, his son William Cory Turner, along with his wife Shanna Gilmore-Turner, grandson Steven Gilmore-Turner and his wife Tammy Gilmore, Granddaughter Alexus Gilmore-Turner, and Great Granddaughter Raygen Gilmore. He is also survived by his daughter/ stepdaughter Kshanna and Eddie Hicks and their children, his sister Swazette Whitten, and a large extended family of cousins and relatives. Although William is reunited with his parents and some aunts and uncles, who preceded him in death, his memory will live on through his loved ones. A man of strong convictions and unwavering beliefs, William often shared enlightening videos, books, and information on health and society with those around him. He challenged others to question the status quo and encouraged critical thinking. His passion for shedding light on societal issues was evident in his debates, where he fervently defended his viewpoints. His legacy of seeking truth and knowledge will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched. Visitation to be held Thursday August 15, 2024 from 12pm – 2pm at Dohanich Ventimiglia Family Funeral Home 331 Smithtown Blvd, Ronkonkoma NY 11779. Cremation in a private ceremony to take place after visitation. Burial of cremains to take place at Pinelawn Memorial Park arranged by family.

Too many memories to just choose one… I’ll say this…seldom did Billy call me by my nickname…. He almost always referred to me as Chevanda. Lol. He was my mothers roll dawg. They rolled tough together for the entirety of my childhood. A Bonnie and Clyde if you will….
Sometimes, my sister and I would just show up at Grandma’s house and ask Billy to drive us wherever we were headed. He almost always stopped what he was doing and dropped us off. A gentle giant❤️
