We mourn the loss of our dear Tante Gisela and celebrate the life she lived. Tante Gisela was a second mother to Dennis and a role model for Rebecca. Dennis fondly recalls sleepovers with Mark at the Grindel home in Melville, where Tante Gisela would make her delicious scrambled eggs for breakfast. The Grindels were frequent visitors to his parents’ home in Plainview, too, spending countless hours together eating, laughing, and making travel plans. We always felt supported and loved by Tante Gisela and Onkel Manfred and we have so many wonderful stories of our adventures with them in Los Angeles, Memphis, and Accra. In 1997, they journeyed all the way to Ghana to attend our wedding, a gesture of love and support we will never forget. Tante Gisela sent us Christmas cards every year and remembered every single birthday of our son, Max. We are so grateful that in October 2023 we had the opportunity to spend an afternoon with her in St. James. We admired her energy, independence, and good humor. Tante Gisela was a loving, kind, and generous aunt to all of us and we will miss her greatly.
Dennis, Rebecca, and Max Laumann
