These are words to a song that I wrote in gratitude for the time I spent with Arnie. I am so glad that I got to share these words with him when he was alive.

So Glad Our Paths Crossed

You were my teacher, my mentor.
Your words so wise.
In my office you’d enter.
So kind were your eyes.
If I asked you for a minute,
You’d say, don’t have the time.

But if I asked you for an hour,
The hour’d be mine.
I’d have your rapt attention.
Knew you’d open my mind.

You helped me to see,
Beyond words people say.
To get the deeper meaning,
See the shades of gray.
When I’d marvel at your skill,
You’d say I’ve done this for years.

Your words were reassuring.
They’d allay any fear.
When I’d have trouble seeing,
What to you was so clear.

You gave yourself,

I was an extern, an intern
With desire to learn.
It’s what led me to earn,
And it was your return.

So many of your words live within me today.
There were tears in my eyes,
When you spoke on that last day.
Still I understood why you went away.

I retain the position,
That you can’t be a clinician,
While assuming the position,
Of a politician.

Now I’m on my own.
You were right. I have grown.
You knew times would change.
For sure things are strange.
All that seems to matter,
Are the numbers and names,

While I play that game,
It still is my aim,
To reduce the chatter,
And provide a frame.
