Marianna Obituary

Marianna Giarratano Bono was welcomed into Heaven the morning of March 20, 2023. She was born in Sciacca, Italy on September 27, 1936. She grew up in a loving family with four brothers and four sisters. She met the love of her life, Michele Bono. They married on July 28, 1959 and had four children, Calogero, Giuseppina, Giuseppe and Pietra.Marianna was a homemaker and mother. Marianna lived for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even when they had very little, she made it seem like they had the whole world. She, with her husband, raised their family in New York. She loved crocheting blankets and clothes for all of the new babies in her life. She enjoyed traveling to new places and trying new foods. She never said no to an ice cream date. She also loved to play cards, the penny slots and bingo. But if you ask her children and grandchildren, her true passions were cooking and baking. For the rest of our lives, we will dream of the paper thin chicken cutlets, the Sunday sauce with all of the meats and her homemade meatballs served over ziti senza righe, because she always made what her husband loved. We will forever remember the aroma of the cuccidati and struffoli she made for the holidays. But, if you tried to taste it while she was cooking, she would chase you from the kitchen. Her food, like her life, was filled with love.We will miss her so very much, but we are grateful for the long life she was given and the lifetime of memories we have been gifted in those years. As she aged and her words ran away from her, she was still able to participate in and witness the weddings of her grandchildren, many birthdays and holiday celebrations and the Baptisms and First Holy Communions of her great grandchildren. All the while, she kept her same feisty sense of humor and joyful attitude. She was met in Heaven by her son, Giuseppe; her parents, Giuseppe and Pietrina Giarratano; and her siblings Giacomo, Barbara, Antonina, Annunziata, and Giuseppe. She is survived by her adoring husband, Michele Bono and their three children, Calogero(Carmela), Giuseppina(Salvatore), and Pietra(Jay). She is also survived by her siblings and their families in Italy: Antonino, Angelo,& Maddalena. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren and their spouses: Linda(James), Marianna (Scott), Michele(Lauren), Giacomo(Christina), Carmela(Chris),Marianna(Andrew), & Stefano(Kelsey). She is survived by her great-grandchildren, whom she loved and adored: Henry, Natalie, Arianna, James, Lilliana, Logan, Dylan, Mila & Colette. Her Celebration of Life will be private. If you would like to honor her memory, please make a donation to a charity that feeds hungry children, as anyone who came to her home never left with an empty belly.
