When I was 11 years old my parents took me to see my first Broadway musical No Strings with Bernice. I was so dazzled, that I wrote Bernice a fan letter. She replied. I kept up a correspondence with her and saw her in What Makes Sammy Run, with my grandmother. I sent a note backstage and she invited us both backstage to meet her, had a photographer take a photo of us together and then sent the to me. I was so thrilled. I saw her again some years later in Man of La Mancha. Again she invited me backstage. She was such a kind soul and seemed so vivacious and had the most wonderful voice. I always signed my letters, your no. 1 fan. Thank you, Bernice for the tenderness you showed
me when I was so very young and starstruck. Your no. 1 fan, Marsha. May your soul sing to the angels.

I met Bernice about 10 years ago when we were both work at Bloomingdale’s in NYC. We became fast friends and kept each other laughing during those stressful retail hours. After Bernice retired from Bloomingdale’s, she and I met monthly for dinner. We formed a beautiful friendship that I will cherish always. My favorite memory of Bernice was going to see the Broadway show Come from Away together. The theaters had just reopened after COVID and it felt magical to be back in the theater watching that show. Bernice was so thrilled that she cried. Bernice was a class act, with endless stories, a delightful laugh, and a real zest for life. I will miss her terribly. Rest in Peace, my friend.

I have been friends with Bernice and her Sister Carr for 25 years. Spoke to both of them regularly on the telephone and made trips out to New York.
Both of them visited Northern Ireland in 2008 and we all had a great time.
I will miss talking to Bernice. She was a wonderful person. My thoughts are with Carr at this time.
